IMPACT — MEIUM

The Japanese government recently implemented predeparture testing requirements again for travelers coming from mainland China.

Key Points:

  • As of Jan. 8, individuals traveling directly from or who have been in mainland China within seven days before intended arrival must have proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken before departure. The requirement does not apply to individuals who have been in Hong Kong or Macao.
  • Acceptable testing methods can be found on the revised testing certificate website.
  • Those traveling to China via an indirect flight can show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 instead of taking a predeparture COVID-19 test.

Additional Information: Travelers from China will continue to be required take a COVID-19 test upon arrival in Japan. More information regarding COVID-19 testing requirements for travelers coming from or who have been in China recently is available here.

BAL Analysis: Border measures may change with little or no notice. The response to the COVID-19 pandemic continues to develop, and BAL will provide additional updates as information becomes available.
