The French government has launched a new digital tool that will alert foreign nationals when it is time to renew their residence permit.

Key Points:

  • Individuals will be alerted via email and SMS of their upcoming expiration date and the deadline to submit their renewal application.
  • The new tool is in partnership with France’s foreign services reform program (PERSée), and the program only applies to foreign nationals who hold a residence permit that was issued as part of the digital administration of foreigners in France (ANEF).
  • This new digital system provides automatic notifications that notify a foreign national four months as well as two months and one week before their expiration date, as foreign nationals must renew their residence permits no earlier than four months and no later than two months before expiration.

Additional Information: Individuals will incur a 180-euro late fee if they request to renew their residence permit after the expiration date.

BAL Analysis: The new digital program is designed to help foreign nationals request renewal of their residence permit in a timely manner and avoid late fees as well as limit the need for issuance of provisional documents.
