IMPACT – HIGH

Argentina has imposed a temporary entry ban on foreign nationals.

Key Points:

  • Foreign nationals will not be permitted to enter Argentina from now until at least April 13.
  • Only Argentina’s national airline (Aerolíneas Argentinas) can bring Argentinian citizens into the country by air.
  • The ban does not apply to individuals who are moving goods or flight crews. Those involved in moving goods should expect delays, however, when entering the country.

Additional information: Last month, the Argentinian government announced COVID-19 restrictions on travel from China, Iran, Japan, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States and all Schengen Area countries. The country subsequently extended those restrictions to include travel from Brazil and Chile. Officials then announced that a temporary entry ban would be applied to all foreign and Argentine nationals. As of April 1, Argentine nationals and residents may return to Argentina on flights designated by the government. Officials have also closed Argentina’s immigration offices.

Analysis & Comments: Employers should identify affected employees and alter travel and business schedules accordingly.
