Insights and impacts of global election outcomes on the global economy, international relations and the ever-changing world of immigration.
More than half of the world’s population went to the polls in around 80 countries in 2024, making it the biggest global election year in human history. It was a high stakes year for incumbents with instances of evaporating long-standing political majorities — from the United Kingdom to Japan and South Korea. In addition, a series of late-2024 political crises in several countries set up pivotal elections in 2025 in what could prove to be an equally significant election year.
Voters in at least two G7 countries are confirmed to go to the polls, and the list of elections could grow with potential snap elections still to be determined. In any case, several large economies and regional powers will hold confirmed elections with far-reaching international implications.
