IMPACT – HIGH

Commercial passenger flights to and from the Democratic Republic of the Congo resumed on Aug. 15.

Key points:

  • All air travelers entering or departing the Democratic Republic of the Congo are required to present a negative COVID-19 test result from a test conducted within 72 hours before boarding their flights. (Negative COVID-19 test results may be required for domestic travel as well.)
  • Air travelers must follow airport safety protocols such as wearing masks, social distancing, temperature checks and completing health forms. They are also to follow procedures put in place by the companies that manage the airports, aircraft and cargo handling. (These procedures will be based on guidelines established by the Civil Aviation Authority for passenger health safety management.)

Background: Restaurants, bars, shops and banks have reopened within the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Public transportation has been restarted as well. Masks must still be worn in public spaces.

Analysis & Comments: The resumption of commercial passenger flights will allow employers who wish to send employees to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to do so. The response to the COVID-19 pandemic continues to develop, and Deloitte will provide additional updates as information becomes available. Please check Deloitte’s COVID-19 Digital Map, available here, for information on travel restrictions and immigration changes in other countries.
